Just Finished Reading...Hallowed

Hallowed by Cynthia Hand

10 second review~ If only I could turn back time and not read this book. What happened?! Unearthly is one of my all time faves, but this didn't do it for me at all.

From Goodreads~
For months part-angel Clara Gardner trained to face the raging forest fire from her visions and rescue the alluring and mysterious Christian Prescott from the blaze. But nothing could prepare her for the fateful decisions she would be forced to make that day, or the startling revelation that her purpose—the task she was put on earth to accomplish—is not as straightforward as she thought.

Now, torn between her increasingly complicated feelings for Christian and her love for her boyfriend, Tucker, Clara struggles to make sense of what she was supposed to do the day of the fire. And, as she is drawn further into the world of part angels and the growing conflict between White Wings and Black Wings, Clara learns of the terrifying new reality that she must face: Someone close to her will die in a matter of months. With her future uncertain, the only thing Clara knows for sure is that the fire was just the beginning.

My thoughts~ I loved Unearthly so much. I read the ebook, bought the hard back  to add to my favorites shelf, did a give away in its honor and made Tucker Avery my Book Boyfriend. To avoid being a Negative Nancy I will start with what was good about this book.

The story is easy to follow, easy to picture and is an excellent example to writers on how to keep the main plot on the fore front. Clara is easy to connect with and the author did her job getting Clara's feelings across.

Now I have to say that knowing and connecting with Clara so well is why I have reservations toward this book. Right off the bat we find out Clara had a vision of herself at a funeral, and it is not long before we find out who the dying person is. Clara is  depressed in this book, and she has the right to be, and I got depressed right along with her. The fact that this person is dying is the main focus of the plot and we rarely get a break from it. I really care about Clara and hated seeing her so sad all the time.

Part of why I loved Unearthly so much, is that I love Tucker. Well...Tucker doesn't get a lot of time in this book and I was looking forward to that.  I loved his interactions with Clara in Unearthly and we didn't get those this time around. This book is beautifully written, but more sad than happy. I will still read book three when it is released.

One more thing. How does this cover relate to the story? I can kind of see it in book one, being that Clara went to a school dance and all, but the "pretty girl in the dress" has nothing to do with this story. I guess it's just meant to be pretty.

Cover Reveal...The Mark of Athena

The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan

Isn't it pretty! I have to admit, I like this series better than the original Percy Jackson series.

From the cover I am guessing that is Percy and Jason riding the Pegasus's. I also love the feminine touch with the different shades of pink. I am hoping for a fair amount from Annabeth's point of view and am looking forward to getting back to Leo, Piper and Jason's storyline.
