Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews. Got new books? Then feel free to join in. Anyone can play along.

I haven't done a book haul in months. But this week I got three new books and I thought I would share.

Dead Silence by Kimberly Derting  I've read the first three books in this series and loved them.

House of Secrets by Chris Columbus & Ned Vizzini  I love Chris Columbus. He has given us Goonies, Gremlins and directed my favorite Harry Potter movies. I read an article that this imaginative story came to him several years ago while he was jogging along the San Francisco bay. He wanted to make it into a movie, but to stay true to his vision, he figured the movie would cost upwards of $500 million. He worked on it for several years and just could not bring himself to sacrifice the story because of a budget. He then decided the best thing he could do was to make it a novel.

The picture does not do this cover justice. The gold on the top is this raised foil type paper with intricate skulls carved into the corners. The spine looks like an old fashion leather bound book. It looks wonderful on my shelf.

The Spinders by Lauren Oliver What can I say? I guess I was in a middle grade mood this week.

Have you been stacking your shelves? I'd love to hear about it.

Book Review and Giveaway...Flame by Mari Arden

Flame, by Mari Arden
A Fireborn novel

Some secrets change your life forever.
Have you ever felt invisible? I do. Everyday. I can't get close to anyone, and people can't get close to me. Everytime I feel a friendship beginning, something inevitably happens, and I become invisible again. Unseen. Ignored. It's been a part of me for so long that it's hard to imagine anything different.
Then the Saguinox arrive, and my life is forever altered. People are fascinated by these beautiful creatures who look and talk like us. They're alluring. Seductive. Intoxicating. And two of them are going to my school. Rhys is everything I shouldn't want, but his eyes are like something from a memory. I can't help but be intrigued. He's the only one who can really see me.
Some secrets you're better off not knowing.
I had been found on a cold winter night with nothing but a blanket, and ashes covering my skin. My mother saved me from death, and took me in with love. But she couldn't save herself. I didn't think heroes were real anymore until the day Kaiden saved me. I couldn't believe in miracles until the day he revealed I was the miracle they had all been hoping for. Deep inside I always knew my past mattered.
I just didn't know my life would depend on it.

My thoughts~
Mari Arden has a fresh voice and does a fantastic job brining this entertaining story to life. Her characters live in a world far from ordinary where an alien race has made themselves known to Earth and are generously welcomed into today’s society.

Kenna is a likable character with a mysterious past that we learn right along with her. Though she spends most of her time alone and is easily ignored, Kenna is not one to sit around and take pity on herself.

Then enters Rhys. Rhys is attractive, intriguing and it is not long before Kenna is paying attention to him. He keeps to himself at first, but when we get into the meat of the plot his true character is revealed and he really stands out.

Flame is an enjoyable read and moves along at a steady pace. Combined with a solid plot and well-developed characters I recommend the read.

It's finally here! Awakened is live!

It's ALIIIVE!!

When I started my blog, I never thought I'd actually see the day when I listed my own book. But here she is.

It has been an unbelievable journey from start to finish. When I started this endeavor I had no idea what I was getting myself into. The work...oh the tons and tons of work that goes into a book. There were several moments when I wished I had never even started, but I was to far along to quit. Now that it is all said and done I'm glad I never did. I'm pretty proud of myself for sticking with it and seeing it through to the end.

Now the fun begins! It's time to get the word out. If you are interested in reading Awakened you can follow the links to the right. At this time it is available on Amazon and Smashwords. Barnes & Noble should be within a day or two and the paper back should be up by the end of the week.

I have a book blast and blog tour scheduled and if you are interested in being a part of it you can follow the links below. Every blog that is a part of the book blast will be able to give away an ebook of Awakened.

Click here to sign up for the book blast.
Click here to sign up for the blog tour. (The tour is only 15 spots, so not every blog that signs up will get a spot. The blogs will picked by the tour host, Xpresso Book Tours.)

I want to say thank you to everyone who has followed my journey and I look forward to bringing more stories to you in the future. Now off to the writing cave, book two isn't gong to write itself.

Just Finished Reading...Clockwork Princess

My copy from the signing event at Barnes & Noble
My thoughts~

I have no words....

Just kidding. This book leaves me with mixed emotions. Over all I loved it. I've loved the series from the opening page in Clockwork Angel and devoured every word in the series since.

What I loved most about these stories were the characters. A lot of writers can write dynamic scenes with realistic settings, but it was the larger than life personalities of Cassandra's characters that sucked me in.

I'm not saying this book didn't have its faults, because in a way I felt like the author took the easy way out when it came to dealing with the love triangle. Because when Tessa and ______, did you know what, I thought to myself. Really? Now? I just didn't buy it. (yes you have to of read the book to get what I'm talking about, but I didn't want to spoil anything for future readers)

I think for the series as a whole I liked Clockwork Prince the best. But the gut wrenching story told to us in Clockwork Princess will stick with me for a while. When I read the epilogue it brought out real emotion in me. I felt the tension build in my chest, and if I would have been alone, I may have cried. It was that strong. But I didn't cry and only one book in the world has ever made me do so. (Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows in case you were wondering.)

Even though I was not the biggest fan of City Of Lost Souls, I, along with you, must wait impatiently for City Of Heavenly Fire. Thank you, Cassandra Clare, for bringing this story to life and sharing it with us.
