BOOK & AUTHOR INFO:

Helia’s Shadow Part One by K.C. Neal
(The Starlight Age Series #1)
Publication date: Fall, 2014
Genres: Science Fiction, Young Adult

Synopsis:

Nineteen years ago, aliens arrived on a dying Earth with advanced technology and the promise of ensuring human survival in exchange for a place to settle. They were hailed as the saviors of humans and Earth.
Today, 16-year-old Helia wants two things in life: to step out of her over-protective mother’s shadow and become an engineer, and to stop hiding her romance with alien boy Kalo. But the world definitely isn’t ready for a human-alien romance. And worse, the human-alien partnership is crumbling. Humans are being arrested without explanation. Some of them are never seen again.
When the alien leader imprisons her mother on a false charge, Helia discovers the aliens never intended to help humans at all. Now, she must join forces with alien rebels and convince the young rebel leader that humans aren’t expendable. If she succeeds, humans have a chance at survival and she has a chance at love. If she fails, the dwindling human race dies out in slavery.

Book Review...Chase Tinker and the House of Destiny

Chase Tinker and the House of Destiny, by Malia Ann Haberman.

Published May 28th, 2014 by Crossroads Press

Summary~

In Chase Tinker's world, magic, lies and secrets can be a lethal combination…

For eight agonizing months Chase Tinker's guilt over the despicable act he committed on Halloween night has been eating away at his heart and mind. Chase's life gets even more complicated when secrets about the mysterious Relic in the attic are revealed on the eve of a visit from an unwelcome caller. It doesn't help that this all occurs on his fourteenth birthday!

Despite his problems, his biggest concern is that his family's Dark Enemy, the Marlowe Family, is becoming more powerful with each passing day, fueled by the energy they continue to pillage from the many magical beings of the world. If Chase and his family are ever going to win, they will need a whole lot of magical help; they must destroy the most evil threat the world has ever known!

My thoughts~

Oh Chase…what have you gotten yourself into this time?

This installment in the Chase Tinker series brings us even more twists and turns than before. In the beginning Chase is plagued with the loss of someone very near to him and the hidden truth of the event has been eating him alive for months. It is not long until truths are revealed, and unfortunately for Chase things spiral out of his control from there.

This book has a great cast and they work well together. They are the perfect blend snark and fun but always willing to be there for one another. I like the character development we see while Chase deals with all of the obstacles thrown his way.

One thing I really like about this book is the magical world has expanded beyond Chase’s world, as he knew it. We get to travel to other realms and are introduced to the other magical beings. It is really neat to see other magical communities and how they relate to the magical world as a whole.

The House of Destiny is book three in a four book series. I could only imagine how hard it would be to write and plot an entire series. But I can tell you that Malia Ann Haberman has done a bang up job. This individual book moves along and a good pace, and the so far the series itself has been paced perfectly. With each book the stakes are raised and then ending keeps me wanting more.

I really look forward the reading the conclusion to this whimsical series. I recommend the read for boys and girls of all ages.

Stacking The Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews. Have you gotten any new books? Feel free to share them. Anyone can join in!

I am happy and sad about this at the same time. I LOVE The Mortal Instruments series. So as happy as I am to finally read City of Heavenly Fire I am sad that it will all be over.

Now for The Cabinet of Curiosities. This book is nothing but fun. Good old fashion creepy fun. It is a compilation of "tales breif and sinister". So if you are thinking of using these as bed time stories for a small child, you might want to read them first.

There is also some cool artwork on the inside cover of The City of Heavenly Fire.

Yes I realize this picture is sideways. But I was having issues with blogger pulling it through and for some reason it flipped. So just go buy the book and check it out in person. :)

After stepping in to fill her sister’s shoes, Katherine realizes she didn’t have a clue – faery wars, depressed trolls and angry unicorns are just the beginning.
For centuries, her family has served the high Queens on both sides of the Atlantic but it is a well-known rule that mid-level witches stay away from high-level Queens. But when Katherine’s youngest cousin vanishes without a trace in the Atlanta court and no one wants to investigate, Katherine decides to step into the darkness on her own. She soon discovers that nothing, especially in the Atlanta High Queen’s court, is as it seems.
When she accidentally opens a rift in the search for her cousin, Richard LeCross, the Queen’s warlock, decides that Katherine is more trouble than she’s worth. He determines that this mortal, dangerously close to becoming a High Queen, needs to die. But killing Katherine is easier said than done.
